St. Luke’s Foundation Offers Free Cataract Surgery

The St. Luke’s Medical Center Foundation, Inc. (SLMCFI), in cooperation with the St. Luke’s Tan Eng Gee Eye Institute, has rolled out a program that offers free cataract surgery services to indigent patients.

St. Luke’s ophthalmologists and staff, with the help of social workers at the St. Luke’s Medical Social Services Department, have calendared weekly screening and surgery on patients under this program.

The St. Luke’s Cataract program aims to help the many Filipinos who cannot afford the cataract treatment cost obtain their much needed eye operation and save their eye sights from further deterioration and blindness thereby improving their quality of life.

Presently, cataract remains to be one of the most significant causes of treatable visual impairment that accounts for more than half of the total incidence of blindness among Filipinos.
